Very Early X-ray Lightcurve Bump and Grb 011121
نویسنده
چکیده
We show that the forward-reverse shocks model (in the ISM case), the late internal shocks model and the early energy injection model are able to power an early X-ray bump in GRB “afterglows”. However, the temporal behaviors of their decline are much different, which in turn provides us a simple but reliable tool to distinguish them. We suggest that the early X-ray bump observed in GRB 011121 could be understood in the model of re-activity of the central engine (i.e., the late internal shocks model or the early energy injection model). The bumps detected in XRF 050406 and GRB 050502b can only be interpreted by the late internal shocks model. If the mechanism is more or less universal, we believe that all of them are powered by the late internal shocks, which implies that the central engine operates for a much longer time than the duration of the prompt γ−ray emission. We discuss several processes which may be able to produce very early Xray bump(s), as that observed in GRB 011121. We show that (1) If ǫe and ǫB (the fraction of energy given to the electrons and magnetic field) of the reverse shock are much larger than those of the forward shock, as suggested by fitting the afterglow light curve of GRB 990123, then the reverse shock synchrotron radiation can b...
متن کاملTheoretical Interpretation of Grb 011121
On the 21 November 2001 at 18:47:21 UT, GRB 011121 was observed by BeppoSAX satellite [1]. The localization was then refined by the Interplanetary Network [2] and an optical transient was identified by the OGLE group [3]. Spectroscopic measurements revealed some emission lines at the redshift z = 0.36 [4]. GRB 011121 is a long burst with T90 = 28 s; the fluence [5] is 2.4 × 10 −5 erg/cm that co...
متن کاملDetection of a Supernova Signature Associated with Grb 011121
Using observations from an extensive monitoring campaign with the Hubble Space Telescope we present the detection of an intermediate time flux excess which is redder in color relative to the afterglow of GRB 011121, currently distinguished as the gamma-ray burst with the lowest known redshift. The red “bump,” which exhibits a spectral roll-over at ∼7200 Å, is well described by a redshifted Type...
متن کاملOptical Bumps in Cosmological GRBs as Supernovae
From both photometric and broadband spectral monitoring of γ-ray burst (GRB) lightcurve “bumps,” particularly in GRB011121, a strong case grew for a supernova (SN) origin. The GRB-SN connection was finally solidified beyond a reasonable doubt with the discovery that the bump in GRB030329 was spectroscopically similar to a bright Type Ic SN. In light of this result, I redress the previous SN bum...
متن کاملEarly optical afterglow lightcurves of neutron-fed Gamma-ray bursts
The neutron component is likely an inevitable ingredient of a gamma-ray burst (GRB) baryonic fireball, in essentially all progenitor scenarios. The suggestion that the neutron composition may alter the early afterglow behavior has been proposed, but there is no detailed calculation so far. In this paper, within the popular internal shock scenario of GRBs, we calculate the early optical afterglo...
